The chief therapist of an Ayurvedic herbal massage clinic of a leading hotel in Kandy, while applying a massage on an Australian woman attempted a sexual assault on her.
The victim, a married woman, complained to the police and the suspect was arrested and produced before the Kandy Chief Magistrate, Leon Seneviratne. He was granted personal bail of Rs. 25,000 when he pleaded guilty. The suspect was ordered to appear in court on October 14 for further inquiry.
The complainant had told police that when she was admitted to the clinic of the hotel at about 8 p.m. on September 23 the suspect while treating her made an attempt to commit an unethical sex assault (Is there any such thing an an ethical sex assault? - Ed) from behind, police said.
The complaint was lodged at the women’s and children’s branch of the Kandy police. The inquiry was held by SI Rasika OIC of the branch with PS Weerasekera of the crime investigations branch on the directions of Kandy HQI, CI Edmond Mahendra and SI R. A. P. Dharmaratne OIC crime investigations branch. The Ayurvedic herbal massage clinic of the hotel is reported closed down since the incident occurred.
