Peiris, LTTE’s Anton Balasingham and Norwegian Foreign Minister Vidar Helgessen planted a Cannon Ball tree to commemorate the Sri Lanka peace talks at the Rose Garden Resort in Nakorn Pathom, Thailand where the second round of negotiations took place. The plaque to commemorate the ceremony clearly identifies the plant as Canon Ball tree. The erudite professor of law is not known for his knowledge of Botany and may have planted it in the belief that this Cannon Ball tree is Sal which Buddhists commonly associate as the Sal tree under which Prince Siddharta was born.
