HISTRIONIC DAY!
22nd Feb 2000

{short description of image}
Of course it is a Historic Day.

Even the venerable "The Times" of London remembered to devote a five-column-25-centimeter spread with the Anuruddha Lokuhapuarachchi/Reuters pic of the "Tigresses" (Click for our version of the pic)
The above cartoon appeared in the Daily Mirror and keen eyed students would note that the Tiger is extending its LEFT paw. A handshake is therefore not possible!

If you 'mirror image' the cartoon then the tiger is extending its RIGHT paw but even then a handshake is not possible...

SERIOUS OUTBREAK OF PEACE IN SRILANKA
EDITORIAL APOLOGY
In the past we, like our rivals The Lake House Newspapers, may have given the impression that SCN were supporters of the status quo: i.e. an undivided island where the Sinhalese, Tamils, Buddhists, Catholics, Muslims and Tourists could live in harmony whilst living in their own little communities and at any available opportunity destroying temples, churches, mosques, taverns...etc and killing each other......
We now freely admit that we were mistaken and wish to apologise to our readers.
We believe that the country needs to be divided (and in fact has been divided for at least 25 years without anybody noticing it! Fancy that!) and that the Sinhalese, Tamils, Buddhists etc should live in their own little communities and at any available opportunity should destroy temples, churches, mosques, taverns...etc and kill each other....
